5/14/24: A Introductory Message from ACC Real Estate Club President Bill Mullarky

Howdy, my name is Bill Mullarky and I am President of Austin Community College’s Real Estate Club for the Fall 2024 & Spring 2025 semesters.

How did I get here? I wasn’t elected!

I showed up to every meeting of the Spring Semester and the Real Estate Club needs student leadership to continue as a student organization. There are opportunities in life if you just show. Just show up. (Special thanks to Charlie and Job for the opportunity to take on this leadership position)

I want ACC Real Estate Club to be an opportunity for all students to speak with real estate professionals, network, and build relationships that can help students gain confidence in this new career path. I’d love it if all ACC Real Estate students showed up to every meeting- however that’s probably not realistic. Just come when you can. (unless you are an officer then you MUST be present!) Many of our meetings this Fall will feature speakers have niche expertise in their professional fields. I may be biased but I truly believe that ACC Real Estate Club can get some of the most nuanced speakers in the Austin/Central Texas area to speak at absolutely no cost to students. How cool is that? Free ninety-nine.

We’re going to try to conduct meetings this Fall under Robert’s rules of order. I’m going to be studying this, too. Robert’s rules of order. It will make things in the organization seem more “official” and help legitimatize our meetings.

I keep saying to Real Estate Club advisor, Job Hammond, that my goal with ACC Real Estate Club is to make it self-sufficient. Real Estate Club should be run by students for students without our advisor having to organize everything. In the Fall Semester I hope to make an outline of specific things to achieve for each semester and a guideline for future classes to follow.

I’ve lived in Austin for nearly a decade and I’ve taken over 55 credit hours at Austin Community College. I love the affordable, small classes at ACC and the quality of education. I believe ACC Real Estate Club has many opportunities to connect students and fellow adult learners to real-world professionals within the industry. Many of our professors are brokers or lawyers and I’ve found many real estate professionals are willing to lend time or advice for the benefit of the public or friend for free, pro bono. Building their real estate karma. What comes around goes around, man.

If you are interested in becoming an officer email me at william.mullarky@g.austincc.edu. An email to all eligible officers is coming soon. The following requirements are necessary:

1.) Maintain a 2.0 GPA

2.) Be an ACC student for one class in the Fall 2024 semester & the Spring 2025 Semester.

3.) Be available for IN-PERSON Real Estate Club meetings once a month in the Fall and Spring Semesters. Be communicative and responsive to emails and/or texts (within 24 hours, please). I’m hoping each officer can dedicate at least 5 hours a month to the club to help it grow roots on its path to self-sustainability.

4.) Study and learn ACC’s requirements for becoming an officer. It’s pretty easy, you just need to fill out a form and complete the nuts & bolts training.

In summary, I’m excited to help get this organization off the ground and to build something that will last at ACC but I need help. You get what you give in this life, let’s build up our real estate karma and hope pays big dividends for you, ACC, and our community.

Fun fact: I was Class President at my high school at Waynesboro Area Senior High School Class of 2009. It’s been a mere 15 years. Maybe I peaked in high school, maybe I’m peaking now. Or, maybe I haven’t even peaked and neither have you!
